In the traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) terms, Yunnan Baiyao stops bleeding, disperses blood stasis, activates blood circulation, alleviates pain, clears away toxins, and reduces swelling. In studies, Yunnan Baiyao is shown to shorten the bleeding time and clotting time.
The exact ingredients and production procedure of Yunnan Baiyao are still state secrets of China. It is believed that the main Chinese herb is San Qi, or called Tien Chi, Panax pseudoginseng, Panax notoginseng, Notoginseng.
Yunnan Baiyao is a traditional Chinese Medicine formula used for wound healing, as a pain reliever and to stop bleeding.... It is promoted as a dietary supplement that can be used both externally and internally to stop bleeding and to treat cancer in humans and in animals.
Yunnan Baiyao is commonly used to extend the life of dogs with bleeding cancers such as hemangiosarcoma. Some treatments for cancer, such as Chemotherapy, tend to promote bleeding; it makes sense that giving a supplement to promote blood clotting would be a benefit.
It is believed that Yunnan Baiyao works by activating the platelets, which are the small blood components that help make blood clot. Blood clots are the first step in a scab. They are like little plugs or corks in the way they stop hemorrhage.
Yunnan Baiyao has been shown to be safe if given with antibiotics, vaccines, pain medication and other drugs such as non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs.

Yunnan Baiyao Dosage for Dogs:
Yunnan Baiyao should be used only after consultation and in cooperation with your dog’s veterinarian.
How much to give? These are general guidelines:
Do not give Yunnan Baiyao on an ongoing basis. It is best to give it on alternating days, or for a 5-day on, 5-day off cycle that repeats. There is some possible evidence that this medicine may elevate liver markers if given daily for prolonged periods of time.
1 box contains 16 Capsules, plus one "magic" Red Capsule (traditionally used internally for emergencies.)

What is the little red pill in the package?
Known in Chinese as Bao Xian Zi, otherwise known as the "safety pill", “magic pill”, or "trauma pill.” For severe/traumatic bleeding or hemorrhage; internal or external. Works in cases of prior to surgeries, gunshot wounds, etc. The “safety pill” should not be taken in doses of more than 1 per day.
Cautions: Should not be taken during pregnancy. Do not give to dogs with liver disease without speaking with your veterinarian first. The top reported reactions were nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, stomach discomfort, rash, and Acid Reflux. I would not use with apricot kernels until further research is done.

Exact formula/ingredients are a family-guarded secret.
We do know that pseudoginseng is probably the most important component of it. When pseudoginseng has been studied alone it has been shown to reduce bleeding times in half.
