Many pet food companies use the cheapest ingredients they can find. Whether it comes from dead diseased animals, road kill, or euthanized pets from shelters. These ingredients are not suitable for human consumption. If you won't eat it, why should your dog! Most pet foods contain 4-D ingredients. 4-D is meat and by-products that have been derived from animals that were rejected by food inspectors who classified the animals as not fit for human consumption because they were “Dead, Dying, Disabled or Diseased” at the time of inspection. Any chemicals that existed within that animal, would still be in it when dead. Meat by-products are nothing more than slaughterhouse waste; waste that’s been banned for use in human food and then sold to the pet food industry. It’s what’s left over after the slaughter and classified as inedible waste, unfit for human consumption.
4-Ds: Roadkill, slaughterhouse rejects, animals that die on their way to meat packing plants - all are acceptable ingredients for pet food under the "4D" rule. Steroids, growth hormones and chemicals used to treat cattle including insecticide patches end up mixed into the final product. Meat from grocery stores past its due date is also added to the mix, as are the Styrofoam trays and plastic wrap they were packed in.

High-heat processing of pet food – especially kibble – creates potent carcinogens like acrylamide and heterocyclic amine. Needless to say, these cancer-causing by-products of processing won’t be listed on any pet food ingredient list.
But they are extremely dangerous, even in small amounts, when fed day in and day out. There’s a connection between these carcinogens and the rising rates of cancer in today’s pets. Proteins, Fats, Antioxidants, Enzymes, Minerals, Vitamins, and Beneficial Bacteria are all damaged or destroyed during the heating process. Grains and legumes contain mold and even through extrusion, it does not remove or kill the mold. Mold can cause cancer and/or organ failure.

In wet foods, the water-soluble B-vitamin thiamine can be almost completely lost due to its reactivity with heat, moisture, sulfites, elevated pH and the thiaminase enzymes found in fish and organ meats.

Feeding your pet the same food everyday of it's life, will cause many issues. These pet foods are lacking certain nutrients. Also many of these ingredients are sourced from China. DO NOT FEED YOUR PET PRODUCTS FROM CHINA! (Includes most (99%) treats, chew bones, etc.)
Buy grain-free/potato free to help eliminate allergic reactions. Make your own dog treats or buy from small mom and pop shops. Also you should change your pets food every 3 months to avoid any allergies or food intolerance. Remember also, many other ingredients not listed that are most likely in your pets food are contaminants like: pesticides, glues, sawdust, chemicals of all kinds.

The best diet you can feed your dog is a raw diet. Dogs are carnivores and enjoy eating meats. Sometimes dogs may have certain health issues that won't allow raw diets but most of the time, raw is your best diet. Look into a home cooked diet if you have a dog with medical issues that may not allow raw which are rare cases. Make sure in a home cooked diet that you add the necessary nutrients and vitamins.
Veterinarians were not taught about nutrition in college. So do your homework. Find a good holistic vet or animal nutritionist that is educated in nutrition. These are hard to find as well. Whatever you do, remember, this is your furry family member. It is your responsibility as a pet parent to give the best foods you can provide to extend his/her quality of life. Which means less visits to the vet. If you're willing to pay a high price for quality pet foods, then you can afford a raw diet. In fact raw diets may cost less than your premium kibbles or canned foods. You may feed 12 oz to your dog of kibble and only have to feed 8 oz of raw. So you save on money that way as well.
DOGS ARE CARNIVORES: Following the long ancestral history as canids. Pet Food Companies have people believing otherwise since humans eat veggies and fruits so beware. Canines do not have grinding molars therefore cannot grind grains. They are made for ripping and tearing of flesh. This doesn't mean dogs can't benefit from receiving raw juiced/pureed veggies and fruits in small amounts for the nutrients. BUY ORGANIC ONLY!
|
Pet Food Companies tell the veterinarians SELLING their pet foods that dogs are omnivores so that consumers will purchase these foods that are loaded with corn and by-products. Don't buy into this false information. It doesn't take a rocket scientist to SEE that dogs do not have grinding molars nor does their jaws move side to side. They eat the contents in wild animals stomachs because it happens to be in the stomach at the time. They are in fact, eating the MEAT. Fur and feathers is not part of that diet.

I hope you have gained some knowledge into the pet food industry here and will look further into changing your pet's diet ASAP! When changing from a commercial pet food to a raw or homemade diet, you will need to add in quality supplements and herbs to build the immune system.
It is imperative that you do this or you may continue to deal with allergies and other illnesses from the built up toxins in your pet. Please do your research or speak with a holistic vet before changing anything especially with a pet with a chronic disease.

I see many really sick dogs, even the ones on raw or cooked diets even receiving good supplements. The cause is, no matter how good of a diet your pet is on, if your dog's gut hasn't been healed, this dog will have leaky gut. It will allow allergies and other diseases continue if you do not do a complete detox. There are steps for this. Heal the gut using probiotics and digestive enzymes. Slippery elm helps heal a leaky gut. Leaky gut is linked to cancer. There are many other steps to do a total cleanse of the body.
FYI-Most ALL vitamins included in commercial pet foods are synthetic vitamins.
Note: Vitamins listed below in purple may have been outsourced from China. Most premixes are.
Synthetic vitamins are normally found in premixes purchased for pet foods. They are not beneficial for your dog. The body cannot absorb them. They ARE synthetic (man made).

Be aware of the difference between synthetic and natural vitamins. Synthetic supplements are manufactured with unnatural ingredients and chemicals. They are made to mimic natural vitamins but not everyone is convinced of their efficacy.~ Dr Group.
This story will shock you and it is still happening to this date. When will you stop buying these products? That's the question. This won't stop till we stop it by not buying commercial pet foods. Buy from small mom and pop shops or small companies that still care.
The Best Dishes to Use to Feed Your Dog
Use ceramic, glass, or quality stainless steel bowls to feed your dog, and make sure they’re heavy enough that they won’t tip or spill while he’s eating. Don’t use plastic bowls. They contain BPA as well as plastic is a breeding ground for germs, and it can retain the smell of cleaning products and previous meals, which may discourage your dog from eating.
Do not use strong detergents or bleach to clean your dog’s food and water dishes, as these products can be toxic. Instead, wash bowls between feedings with a mild dishwashing detergent, and always rinse thoroughly.
Many older dogs suffer from arthritis or other health problems that can make eating difficult. Try elevating the dishes off the floor so your dog can reach the food more easily.

I would like to add-many pet foods might have different types of meals..for example: chicken meal. While chicken is acceptable, what isn't is MOST all meals added into pet foods are from waste including your 4-Ds. Meal can also contain many non nutritional parts of the animal. While chicken necks, livers etc are acceptable food, it is the waste such as skin, fur, feathers that is not a part of the diet. Some may argue this but it is NOT on the top of that food list of what an animal wants to gnaw on and is also non-nutritional. All MEAT meal and salmon/fish meal should be avoided at all costs.
Here is a statement from a pet food company: Chicken meal is an ingredient used by many pet food manufacturers because it is cheaper, easier to produce with, and can be stored for longer. Chicken meal is made by taking the “leftovers” of chicken after meat has been removed for human use. This is cooked in a process called rendering: grinding the chicken down and cooking it at very high temperatures for several hours to make a powder or meal. And because chicken meal legally can contain 4D animals (dead, dying, diseased or disabled chickens), it is not permitted for human consumption.
