This is just a tip of the iceberg on what treats to avoid. This doesn't even touch chew bones, rawhide, toys etc. Most EVERYTHING (99%) made as far as toys, rawhides etc. are from China. PLEASE check ALL packages before purchasing these items that are from other countries. And everything that may say "tested" or "made in USA" doesn't mean it is from the USA. Most all vitamins are sourced from China or other countries that are in pet foods and treats. DO NOT BUY products sourced from China.

I personally refuse to buy ANY store bought treats and I also filter out small mom and pop shops that THINK they are offering healthier treats and really aren't because they didn't do the research on ingredients. When purchasing from mom and pop shops, ask questions and do not buy a treat from them if they contain GMO and Glyphosate contaminated flours and eggs that are not pasture fed and/or organic. Also avoid peanut butters unless organic.

Read this on pet treats.

The ingredients below in red are ingredients to avoid. For example, you see wheat and you think..ah wheat is good. No it isn't! The preference to flours is gluten free. Gluten is highly allergenic and causes gastrointestinal fermentation and other GI upsets to pets. Throw Glyphosate in with that and you have a recipe for disaster of cancer and poor health.

Avoid SOY, WHEAT, CORN and POTATOES. These are full of GMOs and although some wheat doesn't, it is still processed in the same factory as corn and soy and may contain traces. All of our crops are being sprayed with the toxic cancer causing pesticide called Glyphosate (Roundup). ALL corn in the United States is GMO corn as well as soy. Potatoes when high heated are carcinogenic. These break down into sugar as well and cause obesity and cancer.
Other ingredients besides corn that are full of GMOs are:

  • Alfalfa
  • Canola
  • Soy
  • Sugar Beets
  • Zucchini and Yellow Summer Squash
  • Rice

Crops that are suspect to have genetically modified relatives in production – known as “Monitored Crops” are…

  • Beta vulgaris (e.g., chard, table beets)
  • Brassica napa (e.g., rutabaga, Siberian kale)
  • Brassica rapa (e.g., bok choy, mizuna, Chinese cabbage, turnip, rapini, tatsoi)
  • Cucurbita (acorn squash, delicata squash, patty pan)
  • Flax
  • Wheat
Many pet owners assume feeding things like organic brown rice, organic barley and organic millet is just fabulous for their dog or cat. However, organic grains are much better suited for a vegetarian animal like a rabbit, horse or cow. For dogs and cats, they do not require grains and therefore organic or not, you're not doing your pet any favors. AVOID these to avoid allergies and digestive tract issues.

The best treat you can offer your pet is unadulterated, dehydrated meat.

Dogs do not need or require iodized table salt or sugars of any form. Avoid all! Water listed in the ingredients although water isn't bad for you, it is the unfiltered water. You should always provide filtered water to your pet as well as yourself. (fluorine-free).

"Natural flavors" can contain artificial flavors and MSG and almost always do. ANY onion in a dogs diet can be highly toxic. Avoid all products with onion or onion powders...no matter how small the amount is.

Stay away from food colorings as well. And eggs: Eggs that say GMO free or cage free mean absolutely nothing. They must be pasture fed and/or organic. Pasture fed chickens are eating insects and bugs like they would on a healthy living farm. Our eggs in stores may say cage free, but they are still in a barn or huge metal building and crammed in wing to wing eating GMO grains. There is nothing healthy about this. You want pasture fed and organic.
Picture
Not all ingredients that should be avoided are highlighted in red. Please refer to the list at the bottom for more information. While some of the listed ingredients are not deadly, they CAN be over time. If a pet receives the same food day in and day out, your pet WILL began to have health issues. Whether it be from lack of the balanced nutrients to allergic reactions, or if the same ingredient..like garlic or liver is given daily, it can become toxic and the results can be fatal. Always change up your foods (every 3 months) and treats and PLEASE learn to read labels.
High Fructose Corn Syrup contains contaminants including mercury that are not regulated or measured by the FDA.
Also avoid all salmon products. Heavily contaminated with mercury as well as from factory farms.
My recommendation is to purchase treats (and pet food) made and sourced in the United States. Look for Mom and Pop shops that make their own using organic pure ingredients. Or make your own at home. I have a recipe on how to make chicken jerky strips. It's simple and takes no time to prepare.
Walkin' Wheels Dog Wheelchairs
The package or label should say 100 percent pure, USDA inspected. Excellent protein sources include chicken, beef, turkey, goat, bison, venison, and any other protein source your pet enjoys.

I hope this is a guide of what to look for and how to read a label. Learning each ingredient is vital to your dog's health. If your pet has a compromised system already, some of these can become fatal ingredients. Know your dog! Have regular blood work done every 6 months to 12 months according to age and health of pet. Reduce the vaccines and focus on Titer testing. Yes, the cost is a little more but if your dog becomes ill, think of what it will cost then. Spend more now, pay less in the long run along with a long happy healthy pet.
FYI-Most ALL vitamins included in commercial pet foods are synthetic vitamins. The body does not recognize these and they are of little use to your pet for nutritional purposes.

Look for this on packages (below) and make sure everything is from the USA (Made and Sourced). If it doesn't say, then they are hiding something.

Benebone Warning

Real Maple Wood – We use only 100% real flavor in our nylon chew toys. In this case, it’s nothing but 100% USA-sourced nylon and 100% USA-sourced real maple wood.
WOOD? NYLON?
You have a dog that chews on this, you know will swallow some of it if not eat it and the warnings say..not to be eaten. In my opinion..don't give this.
It's dangerous.
Picture
Caution: Benebones may break or splinter, which can cause serious injury or death. Benebones may cause gastrointestinal issues, such as nausea, vomiting, or blockage. Benebones may also cause tooth injury, gum injury, and/or tooth loss. Benebones may cause an allergic reaction in humans or animals that are allergic to one or more components, such as nylon, peanuts, chicken, pork, peppermint and/or maple wood. Benebones are a hard product that can cause injury to a person if stepped on. See instructions for use below to help reduce these risks.

A few common sense guidelines:
Chomp, but Don’t Eat: Benebones (all Benebones – including the dental chew variety) are NOT EDIBLE and are NOT TO BE EATEN.

Dog owners across the country say Dynamic’s ‘Real Ham Bones’ is making their dogs sick or even killing them. Now, the company that makes them is facing a class action lawsuit from pet parents who said the bone killed their dogs or made them sick.
Meanwhile, the Better Business Bureau is asking lawmakers to stop the company from selling the bones. The BBB sent the Real Ham Bone to 100 senators in congress along with a flyer detailing the complaints against it and why it wasn’t safe.
The Better Business Bureau sent every complaint to the maker of the bone David Frick, owner of Frick’s Quality Meats, and his response has been that the bone is safe, stating flatly, "We don't think we have a problem." He likened the sale of the bones to the sales of toys “like bicycles, skateboards and Legos.” The bones, like the toys, are safe when used properly, he said.
They even asked Frick to stop making them, instead he told the BBB he is not willing to change anything.
He said the increased number of complaints is likely the result of social media campaigns against the product and an increasing number of bones sold. One Facebook campaign, Fight for Fred, started a petition which has garnered over 14,400 signatures to have the product be removed from the market.
Meanwhile, the company said its bones are the safest on the market and that each package is labeled with instructions on how best to use the product: “Our customer satisfaction rate is 99.9988 percent.”

THE BBB AIN’T BUYING IT
BBB is urging consumers to use extreme caution when purchasing Dynamic Pet Products Real Ham Bone and have issued an alert on their website. Since January 2015, BBB has received numerous complaints from consumers across the nation who reported that their dogs suddenly became ill or died after eating these bones.
“Some of these dogs have suffered horribly, some have died and they are family members,” said Tracy Hardgrove, the Vice President of the BBB in St. Louis, and worries that since only 5% of people ever report their complaints, she believes there could be more dead dogs.
The BBB also gave the complaints to the Food and Drug Administration and asked Walmart to pull the bones from the shelves.
“We want congress to take action to make this product not distributable,” said Hardgrove.

DO NOT BUY!!!!!!!!!

NEW DEATHS HAVE BEEN REPORTED. FDA REPORTS 1,000 deaths and 4,800 illnesses.

DO NOT BUY THESE AT ALL!!!!!!!!!

http://www.foxnews.com/health/2014/05/19/toxic-jerky-treats-linked-to-more-than-1000-dog-deaths/

Ingredients:

Chicken sourced from China

Purina will tell you lies to sell these to you. Believe me..DO NOT BUY these or any other of their treats.

THEY KILL!
They have made a KILLING (pun intended) off of these and brought them back for that very reason. GREED!

The first button is a 2 hour long meeting between Congress and the FDA (Feeding Death To America). If you're truly interested in China and our imported foods, you must hear this. As it says, only 1-2% of ALL food coming into the USA from China is inspected with the pet foods/feed having less or no inspections. And it would be impossible even in the future to inspect any more than that. Love Congressman Smith in this video. Tracy Forfa with the FDA did a lot of stuttering with her answers.

I am only an everyday person sharing my experiences and knowledge with others. My dogs are all rescues and came with some medical issues. As our dogs age, no matter what we do right, there is always a medical issue that will arise, so being proactive instead of reactive is your best line of defense. You will also have the knowledge to make better decisions and can handle tackling a problem. Learning is our best line of defense.

Facebook is removing thousands, maybe millions of accounts if they don't like anything about them now. I had a page for HOPS on Facebook but I lost it when they deleted my account as well. Over 10,000 followers..gone just like that. We are looking for a permanent social media site. We are on Facebook again but it isn't monitored daily.
Also watch out for a lot of scams going on especially on Facebook, especially so called Drs from Nigeria claiming to help you
or your pets. A Dr named Dr Gbojie natural cure on FB is a scammer. Things are bad right now so just be aware!
