This will blow your mind..pet food.
Lamb and rice diets may contribute to Taurine deficiency, either due to the effect of rice or a lower availability of Taurine in lamb.
Cooking with fluoridated water simply concentrates fluoride (neurotoxin) in the food, a point that all pet food manufacturers must consider in addition to the ingredients they use in their manufactured pet foods.
You ask, "Is insect protein good for your pets?" The answer is ... "NO" Stop listening to pet food manufacturers.
Many pet food companies use the cheapest ingredients they can find. Whether it comes from dead diseased animals, road kill, or euthanized pets from shelters. These ingredients are not suitable for human consumption. If you won't eat it, why should your dog! Most pet foods contain 4-D ingredients. 4-D is meat and by-products that have been derived from animals that were rejected by food inspectors who classified the animals as not fit for human consumption because they were “Dead, Dying, Disabled or Diseased” at the time of inspection. Any chemicals that existed within that animal, would still be in it when dead. Meat by-products are nothing more than slaughterhouse waste; waste that's been banned for use in human food and then sold to the pet food industry. It’s what’s left over after the slaughter and classified as inedible waste, unfit for human consumption.
4-Ds: Roadkill, slaughterhouse rejects, animals that die on their way to meat packing plants - all are acceptable ingredients for pet food under the "4D" rule. Steroids, growth hormones and chemicals used to treat cattle including insecticide patches end up mixed into the final product. Meat from grocery stores past its due date is also added to the mix, as are the Styrofoam trays and plastic wrap they were packed in.
With dry foods, the ingredients are cooked twice. First during rendering and again in the extruder. Problems are much more common than with canned or homemade foods. Altered proteins may contribute to food intolerances, food allergies, and inflammatory bowel disease.

High-heat processing of pet food – especially kibble – creates potent carcinogens like acrylamide and heterocyclic amine. Needless to say, these cancer-causing by-products of processing won’t be listed on any pet food ingredient list. |
But they are extremely dangerous, even in small amounts, when fed day in and day out. There’s a connection between these carcinogens and the rising rates of cancer in today’s pets. Proteins, Fats, Antioxidants, Enzymes, Minerals, Vitamins, and Beneficial bacteria are all damaged or destroyed during the heating process.
Grains and legumes contain mold and even through extrusion, it does not remove or kill the mold. Mold can cause cancer and/or organ failure.

The salmon or fish content in pet foods are also from farmed factories.

Below is a listing of some of the most popular inexpensive worst dog food brands that contain harmful, unnecessary and outright dangerous ingredients which are highlighted in red. Not all bad ingredients are highlighted in red. (Read at bottom of this page for more). This is not a complete list; unfortunately there are many more brands on the market. Just because yours isn't on this list, doesn't mean it's a good food. In fact, it probably isn't. Stay away from grains and fillers.
Many pet owners assume feeding things like organic brown rice, organic barley and organic millet is just fabulous for their dog or cat. However, organic grains are much better suited for a vegetarian animal like a rabbit, horse or cow. For dogs and cats, they do not require grains and therefore organic or not, you're not doing your pet any favors. AVOID these to avoid allergies and digestive tract issues.

From Mike Adams/Health Ranger..."..Very few people are aware that glyphosate is being routinely sprayed on wheat, barley and oat crops as a powerful desiccant, right before harvest.

I would like to add-many pet foods may have different types of meals..for example: chicken meal. While chicken is acceptable, what isn't is MOST all meals added into pet foods are from waste including your 4-Ds. Meal can also contain many non-nutritional parts of the animal. While chicken necks, livers etc are acceptable food, it is the waste such as skin, fur, feathers that is not a part of the diet. Some may argue this but it is NOT on the top of that food list of what an animal wants to gnaw on and is also non-nutritional. All MEAT meal and salmon/fish meal should be avoided at all costs.
Here is a statement from a pet food company: Chicken meal is an ingredient used by many pet food manufacturers because it is cheaper, easier to produce with, and can be stored for longer. Chicken meal is made by taking the “leftovers” of chicken after meat has been removed for human use. This is cooked in a process called rendering: grinding the chicken down and cooking it at very high temperatures for several hours to make a powder or meal. And because chicken meal legally can contain 4D animals (dead, dying, diseased or disabled), it is not permitted for human consumption.

Dr Karen Becker's comments on fish meal:
"Ethoxyquin is still being used in many pet foods currently available on the market. It is used to preserve the fat in almost all fish meals – fat that is made from waste products.
Always remember that if the label doesn't list exact ingredients, including the exact meat source, you have absolutely no idea what's in that food. And because ethoxyquin is added before the raw ingredients are shipped to the pet food manufacturers, it doesn't get listed or disclosed on the product label.
The pet food company you purchase your cat's or dog's food from may not be adding ethoxyquin, but that doesn't mean it isn't in the fish meal in that food.
Don't make the mistake of assuming if the fish meal product label doesn't list ethoxyquin, it's not in there. Fish meal also happens to be one of the main pet food ingredients also contaminated with mycotoxins."

Also included are the synthetic vitamins you need to avoid as most are sourced from China. Use a whole food supplement like Organic Greens Powder. Rosemary extract (and Sage) has been known to cause seizures even in minuscule amounts. Some dogs are also allergic to it.
I personally refuse to buy ANY store bought treats or pet foods and I also filter out small mom and pop shops that THINK they are offering healthier treats or foods and they really are not because they didn't do the research on ingredients. When purchasing from mom and pop shops, ask questions and do not buy a treat or food from them if they contain GMO and Glyphosate contaminated flours and eggs that are not pasture fed and/or organic. Also watch out for food colorings. ~ H.O.P.S.
Feeding your pet the same food everyday of its life, will cause many diseases and autoimmune disease. It is like taking your child to McDonald's (fast food) every day. These pet foods are lacking in nutrients. Many of these ingredients are sourced from China and/or farmed factories. DO NOT FEED YOUR PET PRODUCTS FROM CHINA! (Includes most (99%) treats, chew bones, etc.)
Buy grain-free/potato free to help eliminate allergic reactions. Make your own dog treats or buy from small mom and pop shops using organic ingredients without using preservatives and food colorings.
Also you should change your pet's food every 3 months to avoid any allergies or food intolerance. Remember also, many other ingredients not listed that are most likely in your pets food are contaminants like: pesticides, MSG, glue's, sawdust & chemicals of all kinds. I am not kidding!
Dry Foods offer no nutritional value. The best diet you can feed your dog is a raw or homemade diet. Learn in detail how and where to start from this book.

Make sure in a home cooked diet that you add the necessary nutrients and vitamins. Veterinarians were not taught about nutrition in college. So do your homework. Find a good holistic vet (some are not always educated either in nutrition) or a vet that is educated in nutrition and doesn't work for or receive kickbacks from a pet food company. Or learn to make your own and be smarter than your vet. Whatever you do, remember, this is your furry family member.
It is your responsibility as a pet parent to give the best foods you can provide to extend his/her quality of life. Which also means less visits to the vet. |
If you're willing to pay a high price for quality commercial pet foods, then you can also afford a home-cooked or raw diet. In fact raw diets may cost less than your premium kibbles or canned foods. You may feed 12 oz to your dog of kibble and only have to feed 8 oz of raw. So you save on money that way as well. (Pay Now or Pay Later)
DOGS ARE CARNIVORES: Following the long ancestral history as canids. Pet Food Companies have people believing otherwise since humans eat veggies and fruits so beware. Canines do not have grinding molars therefore cannot grind grains. They are made for ripping and tearing of flesh.
Veterinarians were given a one day course on nutrition taught by..you guessed it..pet food manufacturers. This is why some people believe that dogs are omnivores. This doesn't mean dogs can't benefit from receiving raw juiced/pureed or finely chopped raw veggies and fruits in small amounts for nutrients. BUY ORGANIC ONLY!

Available to see on Netflix, Amazon and other places
Pet Food Companies tell the veterinarians SELLING their pet foods that dogs are omnivores so that consumers will purchase these foods that are loaded with corn, grains and by-products. Don't buy into this false information. It doesn't take a rocket scientist to see that dogs do not have grinding molars nor do their jaws move side to side for grinding. They eat the contents in wild animals stomachs because it happens to be in the stomach at the time. They are in fact, eating the MEAT. Fur and feathers is not a part of the diet.
Most all of these worst dog food brands below have corn (which is full of GMOs) as the main ingredient. Use these examples as a comparative guide to what you should not be feeding your dog.
I hope you have gained some knowledge into the pet food industry here and will look further into changing your pet's diet ASAP! When changing from a commercial pet food to a raw or homemade diet, you will need to add in quality supplements and herbs to build the immune system. (Actually even kibble fed dogs need these supplements more so than raw diets). It is imperative that you do this or you may continue to deal with allergies and other illnesses from the built up toxins in your pet. Please do your research or speak with a holistic vet before changing anything especially with a pet with a chronic disease. Make a change today so that these pet food companies will be forced to make huge changes as well.

As Susan Thixton with Truthaboutpetfood.com puts it: Pet food (excuse me…pet feed) regulations do not require raw materials to be transported or warehoused under refrigeration or frozen. In other words – pet feed ingredients such as meat or fish – could be spoiling/rotting for days before it becomes a pet food (feed).
Mycotoxins
Before you start moistening your pet's food to try to replace the missing moisture, you should know about mycotoxins, another potential side effect of the use of grains in pet food. Mycotoxins are naturally occurring fungal by-products that can cause disease and death in dogs and cats. When grains are improperly stored, mycotoxins can develop. Two common forms, both of which have been found in pet food (more commonly in dog food) are aflatoxin and vomitoxin. Although mycotoxins are found worldwide they only become toxic in temperatures above 82 degrees and over 80 percent humidity at which point they interfere with cellular function, and are extremely carcinogenic and immunosuppressive.
Aflatoxin B1 is the most toxic of the aflatoxins and is the most potent liver carcinogen known.

"If a diet is unnatural, disease will keep company with
those subjected to it."
--- Juliette de Bairacli Levy, Author of The Complete Herbal Handbook for the Dog and Cat, first published in 1955
Substantial evidence exists to indicate that low-level exposure to aflatoxin may cause suppression of the immune system and increase susceptibility to disease. Young and pregnant animals of all species are extremely sensitive to aflatoxins. Aflatoxin is also excreted in milk of dams and may contribute to reproductive failure. Exposure during pregnancy has resulted in transplacental transfer of aflatoxin to and immune dysfunction in offspring.
The elimination of mycotoxins in food is extremely expensive. Pet food manufacturers are not known for using the highest quality grains available; they would not be able to keep up their high profit margins if they did. The grains most pet food manufacturers use are those that are not fit for human consumption or are by-products from other processes.

I see many really sick dogs, even the ones on raw or cooked diets even receiving good supplements. The cause is, no matter how good of a diet your pet is on, if your dog's gut hasn't been healed, this dog will have leaky gut. It will allow allergies and other diseases to continue if you do not do a complete detox. There are steps for this. Heal the gut using probiotics and digestive enzymes to start. Slippery Elm helps heal a leaky gut. Leaky gut is also linked to cancer. There are many other steps to do a total cleanse of the body.
Note: Some ingredients highlighted in purple below are most likely outsourced from China.
Synthetic vitamins are normally found in premixes purchased for pet foods. They are not beneficial for your dog. The body cannot absorb them. These ARE synthetic (man made).

Be aware of the difference between synthetic and natural vitamins. Synthetic supplements are manufactured with unnatural ingredients and chemicals. They are made to mimic natural vitamins but not everyone is convinced of their efficacy.~Dr Group.

The Best Dishes to Use to Feed Your Dog
Use ceramic, glass, or high quality stainless steel bowls to feed your dog, and make sure they’re heavy enough that they won’t tip or spill while he’s eating. Do not use plastic bowls. They contain BPA as well as plastic is a breeding ground for germs, and it can retain the smell of cleaning products and previous meals, which may discourage your dog from eating.
Do not use strong detergents or bleach to clean your dog’s food and water dishes, as these products can be toxic. Instead, wash bowls between feedings with a mild safe dishwashing detergent, and always rinse thoroughly.

The photo above is extremely misleading and should never be compared to human foods, for dog treats and foods are NOT made from human ingredients. It is human waste by products and carcasses of dead animals. When you see something like this, RUN - its loaded with toxic ingredients that will do harm to your dog.
