Do you work long hours? Do you not have a doggie door for your furbabies, or maybe you live in apt on the 3rd floor? Well if you just CAN'T invest in a doggie door or find more time at home, or it's inconvenient for your dog to go out, then consider an indoor potty for your pooch. They have a hard time holding it for long hours and you really wouldn't want them to anyway. So why not teach them to use an indoor potty. You can build your own or purchase one.
Puppy pads don't always do the trick, especially if you have a large dog that likes to tinkle a gallon at a time. You can find indoor potty's online, like an UGHDOG or Pet Zoom or build your own.
One way to build one is to get a tray, like one that goes in the bottom of a wire crate. Or some other large tray like a washing machine pan or a shower pan. Find something that fits your dogs size. Then purchase a strip of artificial turf and cut it to the size of your tray. You may want to purchase enough to have two so you can use one for backup. You COULD also purchase some rubber matting to put between the tray and turf to help catch the run off (not cheap). Or find anything you can think of to make grooves for drainage. Even adding cat litter between the two would be helpful in catching the run off.

You can also build a wood square box just large enough to fit over a washing machine pan and use the pan to catch the urine. Like the one in this photo below.

If you want a drainage hole, you can cut a whole in the bottom. You will need to raise the potty off the floor/ground so adding a frame may be a better option. Like 2x4's for framing for it to sit on. You could add strips of plywood on the sides to help hold your tray in so it doesn't slide off. For draining, go to your local Home Improvement store and find a drain..like for sinks or tubs. Drill the correct size in your tray/pan and add your drain to the tray using washers/seals to make sure it doesn't leak. Run some PVC pipe or a small corrugated hose to where you would like to drain it out to. Below is the Porch Potty with a drainage hole.
Here is a good idea for building one as well.
